Puppy Training
At Betty’s Wimbledon Dog Club, puppy training is based on a holistic and positive approach. We never use E-collars or choke chains. Instead, we focus on building confidence, trust and good communication between you and your puppy.
Training begins with the basics, ensuring your puppy has the best possible start in life and helping your family avoid common early mistakes and stresses. We recommend beginning training from around eight weeks old.
Foundations and Early Skills
During the first sessions, Betty will guide you through the essential early-stage behaviours, including how to socialise your puppy, house training, and crate training if this is something you want to introduce. One of the most important cues your puppy will learn at this stage is Leave, which forms the basis of safe and reliable behaviour.
You will also work on:
• Sit and down
• Building focus and attention
• Recall
• Loose-lead walking without pulling
• Accepting handling for vet checks and grooming
• Stay
• Allowing people near toys, food and chews
• Managing play biting
• Greeting people calmly without jumping
• Social skills around humans, children and other dogs

Training at Home and Tailored Programmes
The best place to begin puppy training is in your own home, where Betty can assess the environment, family dynamics and your puppy’s natural behaviour. This allows her to lay strong foundations and help your puppy learn how to settle into family life as a happy, confident and well-mannered companion.
Every puppy and owner is different, and Betty tailors each programme to suit individual needs, routines and goals.
